Do I stick with Helix and go for a softer model? As I mentioned before, I'm massively concerned about going for a softer model because while it probably would work well for the first year, I see far too many reports that it degrades entirely too fast in the long run.
#HELIX MIDNIGHT MATTRESS TRIAL#
Let's assume I survive the rest of the sleep trial without needing back surgery. My concerns (assuming I don't just go back to my old, unbranded, clearance rack mattress from Mattress spite how that sounds, it was far better at keeping me aligned than the Helix is doing):
#HELIX MIDNIGHT MATTRESS FULL#
I don't know if I'll even make it the full sleep trial required before I can return it, the pain is just that horrible. The quality is there in the Helix, but this foam is just entirely too firm for a 160-lb side sleeper. I've felt better sleeping on my coil-only mattress I dug out of the dumpster 15 years ago more than I feel on this mattress. Helix themselves says it can take quite a bit of time to break in the bed and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and weather the storm through the full trial period to give it a proper chance but I'm in an unbelievable amount of pain. But the Helix Midnight has undone all of that. I'm not the kind of person who has ever had back pain when sleeping because my brace does a bulk of the work. I wear a back brace which sleeping, which keeps my spine aligned on its own but because my hips and shoulders can't properly sink in, it engages my back muscles so much more, I still have to use a pillow at my waist to hold myself in place and it's putting so much strain on my back muscles because of this. To its credit, I don't have hip pain or shoulder pain caused by pressure points as the foam is very good at releasing the pressure, but it has horrendously misaligned my back because my hips can't sink into this foam. On top of that I have rather large hips and my weight just isn't enough to push them into the mattress. I do not offer enough weight to properly sink into this mattress. They claim it would work well for "average weight" which they define as 130-250.that alone should have been a red flag as that's a rather massive weight margin.

So I decided to agree with the quiz and go for the Midnight Luxe. Based on reviews I felt like I may enjoy the Sunset or Moonlight better but I was worried about them being too soft and degrading faster which many many many reviews have stated before. The Helix quiz suggested the Midnight for me. I'm a 5'1" cis woman (relevant to note for body shape) and I weigh 160 lb.

But I'm in a bind rather to endure or replace with another Helix or replace with another brand all together. I feel the need to express my experience the reviews on major mattress websites all seem to parrot each other making me think the reviews are sponsored and not from legitimate users.
